Let Your Voice be Heard
by Karen Chukwukelu
Too small to be the king among giants
Another dust swept in the air
Crowded by the voices of the best
Warmly sat on the confident
Stepped on as the door mat into their opinions
Wrong always Wrong
Quiet always Quiet
Second always Second
Never the loudest but most timid
Pushed up to the limelight but pulled back seconds later
Why? Because I'm not ENOUGH
Never enough
My wings Bright and Bold but cut off by the Giants
No. No. No
Light the path
Set the stage. Volume the loudest
Words rolled off the tongue like the red carpet set for you
Speak they say. Their eyes the spotlight.
Silence there lays
A moment
A second
Loud thunderstorms play out thy mouth
Lightning beautify the halls
Alive. First. Loud. Right
Finally the words said
Never shy from the stage. Let your opinions be heard. Speak for what you believe in. It's easy to say it, as it is said so many times but I tell you; a caterpillar never remains the same but becomes a butterfly who speaks out through its beauty.
I use words. What do you use? Your art, your voice. Question but never be questioned. Define but never be defined. You define your path. No one should do that for you. Let your art be your gateway to the mysteries that course through your veins.
Speak to be heard. Never speak to impose. Be a voice of reason.
Your voice will be the loudest they hear. Now make it the loudest they hear.
